Portland Community College Physical Education Building

Portland Community College’s new PE building provides the campus community with 32,200 sf of space for instruction, recreation and competition. The building provides the campus with cost effective and flexible athletic space, including a large aerobics studio, weight room and cardio area, arranged in an open configuration on two floors around a central two-court gymnasium. Locker rooms accommodate home and away teams, as well as families. Window placements and room orientations pull students to the west-end of campus and create a light-filled interior environment, punctuated by exposed concrete, steel trusses and natural materials. A pedestrian arcade along Killingsworth Street respects the urban fabric and reinforces a walkable campus environment, while providing a privacy buffer for facility users in street front rooms.
